On Writing...

If I sound like I'm gloating in this entry, I'm not. I'm just excited to be working again after a long period of inactivity, and excited to be working on something that I'm enjoying.

So I started working on a new comic book idea. This one is all original characters, so I can take it around to different publishers. It's a cool high-concept that I'm amazed hasn't been done before and am paranoid will be done before I can get it finished (which is why I'm not saying what it is).

At any rate, I wrote it in straight script format, because I think trying to write in comic script format was what tripped me up last time. I got to what I consider to reasonably be the end of the first issue and gave it to Brooke to read. Bearing in mind that she's my wife and she loves me, she really liked it. In what I consider to be a really good sign, she told me she got to the end and immediately wanted to read more. Jackpot!

The next step is to type it into comic script format (should be easier now that the story itself is done) and then send it out to my loyal army of comic nerds who can hopefully help me nail the pacing. After that...who knows? I'm not sure if I should send it out as a script or try to find an artist to send out a semi-finished product. Either way, Brooke's itching to read more, I'm itching to write more and I feel heartily encouraged. All accompanied, of course, with a gigantic knock on wood. I'll keep you posted.

Although I'm not in the army of comic nerds, I would like to read your script (if you don't mind, of course). I'm sure it will be a good read ... and maybe it will jump-start my own original-writing engine.

If you're looking for a really easy cop-out prize for me for being fake #5,000, you can always name the hottest chick character Lee. I'll take that. Especially if you ride this comic into huge fame and I can boast about it later in life.

Imagine you're my wife, Lee, and I name "the hottest charater" after another woman, even one so charming as yourself, even for a contest prize. No, I think you'll more likely be receiving magazines and Muppets toys at some point. It's what I've got.

Is the comic book about the Honors House? I think that would make a WONDERFUL comic book.

Just an idea. Will call you soon.

I figured you'd say that... I'll gladly take the second hottest character. But muppet toys kick ass, too, so no complaints :-)
