On Writing...

If I sound like I'm gloating in this entry, I'm not. I'm just excited to be working again after a long period of inactivity, and excited to be working on something that I'm enjoying.

So I started working on a new comic book idea. This one is all original characters, so I can take it around to different publishers. It's a cool high-concept that I'm amazed hasn't been done before and am paranoid will be done before I can get it finished (which is why I'm not saying what it is).

At any rate, I wrote it in straight script format, because I think trying to write in comic script format was what tripped me up last time. I got to what I consider to reasonably be the end of the first issue and gave it to Brooke to read. Bearing in mind that she's my wife and she loves me, she really liked it. In what I consider to be a really good sign, she told me she got to the end and immediately wanted to read more. Jackpot!

The next step is to type it into comic script format (should be easier now that the story itself is done) and then send it out to my loyal army of comic nerds who can hopefully help me nail the pacing. After that...who knows? I'm not sure if I should send it out as a script or try to find an artist to send out a semi-finished product. Either way, Brooke's itching to read more, I'm itching to write more and I feel heartily encouraged. All accompanied, of course, with a gigantic knock on wood. I'll keep you posted.

The Impatient Dance

Hello. All is well. I've been writing fairly steadily since the New Year and the fills me with a lot of joy. So does the following. Don't read it if you're down on love at the moment.

So last night Brooke and I are watching the BBC Pride and Prejudice series on DVD, snuggled on the couch under a blanket. We take a break so I can get a drink or something, and it's taking a couple of minutes. Brooke comes out and she's really into the movie, so she wants to start it up again. So she starts doing the impatient dance, which is this: she leans her head back to one side, moves her feet almost in a gait in one place, and swings her torso from side to side, her arms swinging limp at her side. It's the most adorable thing I've ever seen in my life. Brooke points out that, since she's wearing long john pjs, she looks a bit like a mental patient when she's doing this. This is true.

I love this woman.

Just a minute...

Plenty of stuff has been happening, but I just don't have time to go into it right now. Sorry. For other accounts of the TMBG show/Slow Kids weekend, please see Deuce's or Wolf's journals.
